    Shrub up to 3.5 m high
    Branches
    Branchlets, petioles, lower surface of leaves, peduncles, branches of cymes and calyx, very densely greyish woolly tomentose; hairs branched

    Leaves decussate, petiolate; lamina 6–23 × 2.5–9.7 cm, oblong or oblong-ovate, acuminate or sometimes attenuate towards an acute apex, cuneate at the base, sharply serrate on the margin (teeth small), discolorous
    Inflorescences
    Cymes solitary at each axil, spreading-dichotomous (often branching up to 8 times), 4–8 × 7–11 cm, dense, many-flowered forming floriferous masses on the branchlets
    Calyx
    Calyx 1.3–1.6 mm long, oblong-campanulate, distinctly 4-dentate
    Corolla
    Corolla lilac or purple, hypocrateriform; tube 1–2 mm long; limb 4-partite
    Fruits
    Fruit c. 2 mm in diameter, subglobose, white, puberulent or glabrous, surrounded by the cupuliform or patelliform, fructiferous calyx.
    Distribution
    Zimbabwe Native to India, China, Hong Kong, Hainan, Myanmar and Thailand.  Cultivated in some countries, mainly in botanic gardens. District code: ZIM C.
