- Capitula heterogamous, radiate (in ours) or disciform, sessile or shortly pedunculate, solitary or aggregated; phyllaries 3–7-seriate; receptacle with paleae
- Florets
- Ray florets present and 1-seriate, 3-lobed or absent; disc florets hermaphrodite, anthers sagittate, style branches flattened, obtuse to subacute
- Fruits
- Achenes pilose; pappus of large scales in 2 rows.
