    Habit
    Small weak annual herb about 20 cm. long or tall; stems slender, 4-angled, glabrous.
    Leaves
    Leaves 0.5–2 x 0.2–1.1 cm., narrowly ovate, acute at the apex, rounded then abruptly narrowed at the base into a short petiole 1–2 mm. long, glabrous; stipule sheath c. 1 mm. long with c. 5 often purplish fimbriae 2–3 mm. long.
    Flowers
    Flowers solitary in the leaf axils or apparently in 2–3-flowered scorpioid cymes due to suppression of leaves and bracts and actually some branches with a truly terminal flower; pedicels or apparent pedicels 2 mm. long, lengthening in fruit up to 1.7 cm. long.
    Calyx
    Calyx tube 0.5 mm., with short acute swollen-based hairs; lobes up to c. 1.5 mm. long in fruit, 0.5 mm. wide at the base, narrowly triangular.
    Corolla
    Corolla white; tube 0.8 mm. long; lobes 1.3 x 0.5 mm., oblong.
    Stamen and Style
    Anthers about | exserted; style and stigmata together about 1.2 mm. long, the latter c. 0.4 mm. and just reaching anther tips, the flowers obviously not heterostylous.
    Fruits
    Capsule 2.5–3 x 2–2.5 mm. including the low rounded beak, broadly subglobose.
    Seeds
    Seeds compressed, dark brown, c. 0.25 mm. long; testa cells densely coarsely verrucose, with straight walls.
