    Habit
    Shrub or small slender tree 3–9(–?15) m. tall, with laxly branched stems; young branchlets densely pubescent but later glabrous, pale and rugose.
    Leaves
    Leaf-blades elliptic or oblanceolate-elliptic, 11–30 cm. long, 5–16 cm. wide (or probably larger), acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, venation fine and reticulate beneath, pale and ± prominent in the dry state; midrib with fine bristly hairs above but otherwise glabrous; venation beneath bristly pubescent (see note for specimens with a much denser indumentum); petiole 0.8–2 cm. long; stipules elliptic, 1–1.2 cm. long, 4.5–6 mm. wide, pubescent, soon deciduous.
    Flowers
    Flowers pendulous, several in inflorescences up to about 10 cm. long; peduncles and secondary peduncles 0.8–1.7 cm. long; pedicels 0.7–1.7 cm. long; all parts ferruginous pubescent Calyx-tube obconic, 7 mm. long, ferruginous pubescent; tubular part of limb 8 mm. long, pubescent outside, densely hairy inside; lobes ± triangular, (0.35–)0.6–1 cm. long, pubescent, the tube with winged ribs decurrent below the lobes.
    Corolla
    Corolla cream outside, sometimes tinged pink or red, deep red-crimson-brown inside, funnel-shaped above, constricted and tubular at the base, upper part 1.6–2.5 cm. long, silky pilose outside, basal part 1 cm. long, glabrous outside in the lower part; lobes rounded, 1 cm. long and wide, silky pilose save for glabrous overlapped part.
    Anthers
    Anthers ± yellow.
    Pistil
    Style, and stigma ± yellow.
    Fruits
    Fruits ? orange, said to be as large as an egg; those seen are immature, ellipsoid to fusiform, 3–5 cm. long, 1.6–2 cm. wide, ± ribbed.
