    Habit
    Perennial herb, with few mostly decumbent branches to 50 cm long, often almost leafless.
    Leaves
    Leaves mainly basal, alternate, also tufted at nodes under lateral branches, the lowermost sometimes simple, but usually deltoid in outline, pinnatifid, 1–4 cm long, 0.5–3 cm wide, with few narrow lobes, subglabrous.
    Capitulum
    Capitula few, on long peduncles, radiate; phyllaries ovate, grading into paleae.
    Florets
    Ray florets 5–12, yellow with purple veins, female, to 5 mm long; disc florets 7–12, yellow, 2.5–3.5 mm long; anthers black.
    Fruits
    Achenes dark brown to black, ellipsoid, 5–8(–13) mm long, glabrous or with barbs along the ribs; with 2 aristae to 5 mm long, with retrorse barbs.
