Morphology General Habit
Spiny succulent shrubs to 30 cm high, densely branched, scrambling and spreading by prostrate ± buried branches to form large patches to 1 m or more across, the branches sometimes establishing separate plants.

Branches prostrate to suberect, 30–75 cm long, 8–10 mm in diameter, 4-angled, yellowish to grey with the angles ± purplish; angles with shallow tubercles 12–14 mm apart along the margins.

Spine shields c. 8 × 1.5 mm, narrowly triangular, brown; spines 7–9 mm long; prickles c. 2 mm long, 1–1.5 mm above the spines, widely diverging.
