    Habit
    Annual herb (3–)6–20 cm. high; stem slender, simple or branched, very sparsely appressed setose.
    Leaves
    Leaves subsessile; lamina elliptic-lanceolate, 0.5–0.8 cm. long, 0.2–0.25 cm. wide, apex obtuse to subacute, base cuneate, margin entire or serrulate, glabrous; midrib scarcely visible above, sub-prominent beneath; midrib and 1 pair of basal longitudinal nerves sub-prominent beneath.
    Inflorescences
    Inflorescence a 2–5-flowered terminal cluster; pedicel 1–2 mm. long; bracts linear-lanceolate.
    Calyx
    Calyx-tube (fig. 8/1, p. 28) campanulate, 2 mm. long, 2 mm. in diameter, sparsely pilose; lobes narrowly triangular, 2.5 mm. long, margin serrulate-ciliate; intersepalar appendages bristle-like.
    Corolla
    Petals pink, obovate, ± 5 mm. long, 4 mm. wide.
    Stamens
    Stamens 8, unequal; 4 large stamens with anthers ± 1 mm. long, free part of connective arcuate ± 1.8 mm. long, the solitary anterior appendage 1.8 mm. long, bilobed at the apex, filament 2.5 mm. long; 4 short stamens with anthers ± 1 mm. long, connective ± 5 mm. long, anterior appendage 0.4 mm. long, emarginate at the apex, filament 2.5 mm. long.
    Ovary
    Ovary 4-locular, subglobose, lower half adherent to the calyx-tube, apex with scattered bristles.
    Seeds
    Seeds 0.5 mm. long, 0.3 mm. in diameter, minutely tuberculate, the tubercles in curved rows.
    Habitat
    Seepage zone among granite rocks; 1050 m.
