    Habit
    A shrublet up to 45 cm. high, with a thickened woody rootstock.
    Stem
    Stem erect, woody, rather branched towards the apex, covered with irregularly fissured bark; branches erect or ascending, slender, 4-gonous, reddish, with short sparse whitish appressed bristles bulbous at the base, glabrescent towards the base; nodes with a ring of long bristles; intemodes 0·3–4 cm. long.
    Leaves
    Leaves 1–5 x 0·2–0·4(0·7) cm., narrowly lanceolate, acute at the apex, crenulate at the margin, narrowed into a 2 mm. long petiole at the base, rigid, patent, green on both faces and with bristles as on branches mainly on the nerves and along the margin, 3-nerved, the lateral nerves inconspicuous on superior surface, they and the midrib prominent beneath.
    Flowers
    Flowers 4-merous, solitary or 2–4 in heads at the end of the branches.
    Bracts
    Bracts minute, green or yellow, acute, ciliate along the margin, persistent.
    Pedicel
    Pedicels 2–3 mm. long, appressed-setose.
    Receptacle
    Receptacle 3–4 x 2–2·5 mm., cylindric-campanulate, appressed-setose, provided towards the summit with reddish, very shortly pedicellate appendages, setose at apex.
    Calyx
    Sepals 3 x 1·5 mm., persistent or tardily caducous, obtuse, reddish, ciliate along the margin, long stellate-setose at the apex, alternating with 1 mm. long intersepalar segments stellate-setose at the apex.
    Corolla
    Petals 1 x 1 cm., rose-violet.
    Stamens
    Longer stamens: anthers 4 mm. long with a pedoconnective 5–6 mm. long, arched and furnished at the base vvith a 2 mm. long, furcate appendage; filaments 5 mm. long. Stamens 8, unequal. Shorter stamens: anthers 3–5 mm. long, with a very short pedoconnecdve provided at the base with a minute, bituberculate appendage; filament 6 mm. long.
    Style
    Style c. 12 mm. long.
    Fruits
    Fructiferous receptacle 4 x 3 mm., constricted towards the apex. Capsule 4-valved, 4-angular above, setose at the top.
    Seeds
    Seeds c. 0·4 mm. long, cochleate, yellowish, with minute papillae arranged in curved lines.
