    Note
Solanum lanzae is a common and distinctive endemic of East African black cotton soils. Its greyish, long-elliptic, almost sessile leaves, complete lack of prickles, and small flowers set it apart from other Solanum in the region. It has been suggested that it is not a native species, even though no similar species are known outside Africa. Greyish green leaves and unusually small flowers and fruits suggest an affiliation with the southern African S. catombelense Peyr.
