- Bushy perennial herb 0.35–1 m tall, with a strong taproot or woody rootstock, silvery tomentose throughout (except corolla).

- Leaflets 1.5–3 × 0.7–1.5 cm, elliptic-obovate to obovate or oblanceolate, obtuse or rounded to a small apiculum; petioles mostly 0.4–1.2(1.4) cm long; stipules lacking.

- Flowers yellow, (1)2–6(8), clustered at branch-ends, sometimes on very reduced lateral branches and appearing axillary; bracts 3–4 mm long, elliptic; pedicels 0.5–1 mm long; bracteoles 3–5 mm long, linear.
