Morphology General Habit
Intricately branched shrublet 2–4(–8) m tall with reddish or brownish glabrous or shortly pubescent stems; bark grey, peeling.

Leaves ovate, broadly elliptic or almost round, (0.9–)2–4.7 cm long, (0.4–)1.4–3.5 cm wide, rounded at the apex, rounded to slightly cordate at the base, glabrous, glandular-punctate, subsessile or petiole 1–1.5 mm long.

Thicket in rocky places, river beds, gullies etc, Spirostachys, Cynometra flood plain thicket, forest, limestone caves with Cynometra, Euphorbia, Lepisanthes etc.; in West Africa Raynal states ‘wooded grassland on alluvial plain and gallery forest 320 m’ and Roberty ‘in swamp submerged for 4–5 months’; 18–360 m
