This species is accepted, and its native range is Temp. Eurasia, N. Africa to Sahel and Somalia. It is used as a medicine and for food.

Biogeografic region: Andean. Elevation range: 1800–4100 m a.s.l. Naturalised in Colombia. Colombian departments: Antioquia, Bogotá DC, Cundinamarca, Nariño, Tolima.
