The native range of this subspecies is NE. Aegean Islands to NW. Türkiye. It is a bulbous geophyte and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.

Descriptions

Habitat

Mainly grows in exposed olive groves and garrigue as well as on south-facing roadside slopes.

Distribution

The distribution of this subspecies encompasses Lesbos, Chios, Samos and westernmost Anatolia. On Lesbos it mainly occurs in the south, around the cities of Agios Isidores, Plomari and Megalochori. On Samos it has only been reported from the low hills around Moni Agia Triada. [Aeg, Tur; Ana].

General Description

Plant compact (the uppermost foliage leaf usually reaching past the node of the lowermost flower), 10-20 cm tall with 2-8 flowers in a dense spike. Sepals green (to white), occasionally suffused with violet, 12-17.5 × 6-9 mm. Petals 5-8 × 2.5-5 mm. Lip 12-15.5 × 15-19 mm; side lobes with straight apex.
