Distribution
An Argentinian endemic apparently most common in the Cordoba-Catamarca area, some considerable distance from the Bolivian border, being rare in the Jujuy-Salta regions (Pontiroli 1993: 148), from where only three collections are cited.
Ecology
It grows at much lower altitudes than Clinopodium cochabambense at around 1500 – 3000 m.

Note
Close to Clinopodium cochabambense but differing in the more prominently toothed leaves, the calyx with lanceolate to strap-shaped, spreading to recurved lobes, which are somewhat longer than the tube, and the finely pointed pubescent nutlets.

Conservation
This species only grows in three areas and appears to be common only on the southern slopes of Cerro Tunari. Populations need to be assessed accurately before it can be classified other than Data Deficient (DD).
Ecology
A Bolivian endemic found between 3250 and 3700 m in bushy places around rocks in areas of former Polylepis woodland on Cerro Tunari, in Arque and on Sacha Loma between Mizque and Arani in Cochabamba Department.

Note
I have cited Ibisch 710 under this species as I believe it belongs here because of its leaf shape and hairy nutlets. However its pilose indumentum is abnormal and suggestive of hybrid origin through crossing with Clinopodium gilliesii which was collected in the immediate vicinity (Ibisch 704). One of the three species with small corollas, ovate leaves and hairy nutlets, this species is close to Clinopodium odorum, within which it was included by Epling. Apart from being geographically separated, it differs in its erect, triangular calyx lobes, which are about the same length as the calyx tube, and its acute rather than long-pointed nutlets.
