Morphology General Habit
Erect shrub to 1 m tall; young branches whitish puberulous or densely so, soon glabrous with greyish to brownish bark.

Leaves: lamina oblong-elliptic to obovate, largest 0.5–1.5 × 0.2–0.4 cm, margin entire, strongly recurved, sparsely sericeous-puberulous beneath (densest on veins), above with dense minute bulbous-based hairs (covered in small white dots when older).

Spikes solitary, dispersed whole when mature; bracts greenish to yellowish brown, elliptic or oblong, finely sericeous-puberulous or densely so, terminating in a recurved bristle and on each side with 1–3 retrorsely barbed and finely glochidiate bristles 1–7 mm long; lower pair 1–2 mm long, second pair 2–4 mm long, third pair 3–5 mm long, inner pair 4–7 mm long; bracteoles elliptic-obovate, 7–13 mm long, of which about half is a long terminal bristle.

Sepals greenish to brownish or purplish mottled or uniformly purplish towards apex, puberulous or sparsely so, ciliate; dorsal ovate-elliptic, 11–15 mm long, narrowing gradually to the cuspidate apex (rarely slightly ligulate); ventral similar, 9–13 mm long, with two ± 1 mm long mucros; lateral 7–11 mm long.

Corolla pale yellow or yellow with purple veins, 12–20 mm long of which the tube 3–6 mm; callus with 3 weak or distinct apical ribs and 3 apical flanges.
