Morphology General Habit
Procumbent perennial herb with short creeping sometimes branched rootstock and fleshy roots; stems up to 35(–75) cm long, slender (1–1.5 mm in diameter), glabrous to uniformly puberulous.

Leaves with largest pair (of middle and upper leaves) (2–)4–8 times longer than smaller pair; lamina of larger pair linear-lanceolate, largest 6.5–11 × 0.3–0.6(–1) cm, margin entire or some with up to 7 inconspicuous teeth per side, glabrous to sparsely puberulous, beneath densest along veins, above uniformly so; lamina of smaller pair narrowly ovate-elliptic, 0.8–2(–5) cm long, entire or (usually) with one large tooth per side.

Heads globose, on upper part of stems only; peduncle 2–5(–6) cm long, subglabrous to puberulous with eglandular hairs; axes sericeous-puberulous or densely so, without capitate glands; floral leaves and outer bracts with strong submarginal vein and strong transverse veins, narrowly elliptic, 2–4 cm long, subglabrous to puberulous, without capitate glands; inner bracts similar, up to 1.5 cm long.

Sepals puberulous (pubescent along veins), with scattered stalked capitate glands towards base, densely crisped-ciliate with hairs to 2 mm long; dorsal ovate-elliptic, 20–24 mm long (mucro ± 1 mm), tapering gradually to an acute apex, with 1–3 lateral teeth per side; ventral similar, 19–22 mm long, apical part not ligulate, deeply bifid with teeth 3–5 mm long, with or without central tooth, with 1–2 lateral teeth per side; lateral 19–21 mm long.

Corolla purple or bluish purple, pale on the outside, callus and tube yellowish, 29–32 mm long of which the tube 5–6 mm; limb broadly obovate, 19–22 mm wide, distinctly 3-lobed, middle lobe slightly shorter to slightly longer, narrower than lateral and narrowed at base; callus with 3 equally strong ribs.

Filaments 5–7 mm long, glandular; appendage 2–3 mm long, triangular in outline and flattened towards the anther, tapering to an obtuse curved tip; anthers 4–5 mm long.

Note
Blepharis uzondoensis differs from B. buchneri in the thin procumbent stems, the linear-lanceolate leaves and ventral and lateral sepals which are of equal length.
