Morphology General Habit
Shrub or woody herb, 0.3–2.5 m high; stems branched, erect or slightly sarmentose, cylindrical, striate, distally puberulous or hispid-pubescent, glabrescent, occasionally glandular, with dense leaf scars and many leaves crowded at the ends of branchlets.

Leaves (occasionally described as aromatic) sessile or with short pseudo-petioles, ovate or lanceolate, 2–10 cm long, 0.5–1.5(–2.5) cm wide, cuneate but with the very base usually slightly auriculate with tiny auricles, margins densely serrate (the serrations mucronate), acute at the apex, sparsely puberulous or scabridulous on both surfaces but mostly beneath, glabrescent, sometimes with translucent dots.

Capitula 3–5 mm long, 10–30 together in fairly lax leafy terminal corymbs; phyllaries ± 14–16, pale green, subequal but the outermost narrower, 3-seriate, ovate or lanceolate, 2–3.5 mm long, (0.7–)1.3–2.4 mm wide, with scarious margins, acute or subacute, sparsely puberulous or glabrous; receptacle toroid, toothed.

Florets yellow; marginal florets many (100–345), the tube 0.7–1.1 mm long, fimbriate at the apex, style 1.4–2.4 mm long; central florets 22–60, tube 0.8–2 mm long, lobes 0.6–1 mm long, obtuse; anthers 0.7–1.3 mm long, briefly and obtusely sagittate at base, apex with very short triangular appendages; style 2.1–2.2 mm long with ellipsoid papillose arms ± 0.3 mm long.

Achenes compressed-obovoid, 0.6–1 mm long, ribbed, glabrous or rarely pubescent; pappus of tawny to pale brown setae 1.5–3 mm long, united in a ring at their base.

Forest margins and grassy clearings (especially in drier forest, e.g. Juniperus or Podocarpus type), montane scrub or bushland (with Lantana, Erica), especially in rocky sites; (1050–)1500–3050 m
