The native range of this species is Easter Island, SE. Canada to Tropical & Subtropical America. It is an annual and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome. It is used as a medicine.

Annual much-branched herb, prostrate, with branches to 10(–20) cm. long, the whole plant completely glabrous.
