- Note
- As this part was going to press Andreas Hemp sent me a specimen of Macrothelypteris torresiana (Gaudich.) Ching collected in Tanzania, Morogoro District, above Morogoro near Morningside, road embankment near a water canal, 1200 m, Dec. 2004, Hemp 4195. This occurs in tropical Asia and the western Pacific Islands and is now widely naturalized in tropical America, but is otherwise known only from Natal in mainland Africa. It will doubtless spread rapidly. The fronds are bipinnate and it will key to Pseudophegopteris, but is immediately identifiable by the long stiff slender multicellular hairs up to 1.5 mm long on the undersurface. Such hairs are an exception in the family.
