Biogeografic region: Amazonia, Andean, Guiana Shield, Caribbean. Elevation range: 250–3000 m a.s.l. Native to Colombia. Colombian departments: Antioquia, Bogotá DC, Boyacá, Caquetá, Cesar, Cundinamarca, Magdalena, Meta, Norte de Santander, Tolima.

Fronds scattered, hygroscopic (curling up in dry weather, opening out after rain), the densely appressed-scaly stipes shorter than the lamina; lamina chiefly oblong or linear-oblong, 4–15 cm long, 1.5–6 cm broad, densely clothed beneath with roundish or deltate-ovate, peltate scales that entirely conceal the tissue, on the upper side bearing a few scattered, slender, pale, fimbriate scales; segments 2.5–5 mm broad, rounded at the apex, dilated at the base; veins obscure

Distribution
Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac. Widespread in the warmer parts of the Western Hemisphere from Ohio and Virginia to Argentina; common in the West Indies.
Ecology
Cayman plants occur on mossy logs and tree- trunks in sheltered woodlands, and are rather rare.
