Aromatic shrub or small tree to 7 m tall or more, the bark smooth and whitish, the young branchlets and petioles puberulous; leaves narrowly obovate or elliptic, mostly 1.5–4 cm long, blunt or slightly notched at the apex, the margins more or less revolute, densely gland-dotted on both sides, glabrous except for the short petiole

Distribution
Cayman Islands. Florida, West Indies, Mexico and C. America, and northern Venezuela, varying considerably from one region to another. The Cayman population described above closely resembles that of Cuba and the Bahamas, and is quite unlike that typical of Jamaica.

It grows in rocky thickets and woodlands.
