Morphology General Habit
Herb 10–25 cm. high; main stem erect with numerous lateral branches, the lower mostly widely spreading and decumbent.

Fertile spikes many, 1–5 cm. long, thickening in fruit, but less than in S. pachystachya, 3–4 mm. in diam., not cylindrical (at least when dry) and mostly distinctly tapering towards apex.
