Morphology General Habit
Semi-scandent shrub ± 3 m. high to liane climbing to at least 16 m.
Morphology Stem
Yellow-brown bark peeling rapidly to reveal light brown wood; young shoots sparsely to densely yellow-brown pubescent.

Leaves opposite, subopposite or ternate; lamina membranous to coriaceous, oblong-oblanceolate, up to 23.5 cm. long, 5.5 cm. wide, apex acute to apiculate or acuminate, base cordate, margins undulate, glabrous (except for the scales) or pilose on the midrib beneath; scales golden reddish, scattered; lateral nerves 12–16 pairs, subprominent beneath; petiole up to 5 mm. long, yellow-brown pubescent at first, densely lepidote.

Inflorescence axillary, simple or paniculate due to suppression of the leaves, spikes somewhat globose, ± 1.5 cm. in diameter; peduncle up to 1.5 cm. long, yellow-brown pubescent.

Scales (fig. 2/24, p. 13) 100–150 μ in diameter, marginal cells not or only slightly scalloped; cells numerous, greatly radially elongated.

Riverine forest; ± 800 m.
