Morphology General Habit
Scrambling shrub; branchlets lightly golden pubescent, becoming glabrescent, older branches reddish brown; bark peeling in strips.

Leaves opposite or subopposite; lamina ovate, up to 8 cm. long and 3.2 cm. wide, apex acute, base cuneate, sparsely pubescent on the venation; midrib prominent beneath; lateral nerves 3–4 pairs; petiole up to 8 mm. long, the base sometimes persisting as a short and blunt spine.

Inflorescence of terminal and axillary bracteate spikes up to 14 cm. long (shorter for the axillary spikes); rhachis pubescent; bracts narrowly ovate, 15 mm. long, 3 mm. wide, apex acute, base attenuated.
