Morphology General Habit
A liane or sometimes a scandent shrub; branchlets lightly villous at first, becoming glabrescent.

Leaves opposite or subopposite, sometimes ternate; lamina oblong-ovate to ovate, up to 16 cm. long and 6 cm. wide, apex shortly acuminate, base rounded or subcordate, lightly pilose at first, becoming glabrescent; lateral nerves 6–10 pairs; midrib prominent beneath; petiole up to 5 mm. long.

Inflorescence of terminal and axillary contracted racemes; rhachis rufous pubescent; floral leaves up to 6 cm. long and 2–5 cm. wide, similar to foliage leaves but whitish or pink.

Margins of rain-forest, riverine forest and in secondary bushland; 1100–2200 m.

western Africa from Senegal southwards to Angola and east to southern Sudan U2 U4
