Morphology General Habit
A scandent shrub or liane; stem lightly rufous pubescent.

Leaves opposite or sometimes 3-verticillate; lamina ovate-elliptic to elliptic-obovate, up to 21 cm. long and 11 cm. wide, apex acuminate, base cordate, glabrous when mature except for pilose domatia in the nerve-axils and sparsely hispid midrib and nerves beneath; lateral nerves 6–10 pairs; petiole up to 1 cm. long, stout and leaving a prominent leaf-scar.

Inflorescence of elongated false racemes formed by the suppression of the leaves, 10(–17) cm. long; flowers pink or crimson, on very short ultimate branches of the false raceme, rather crowded in the upper part; peduncle and flowers without or with a very few long gland-tipped hairs, but short gland-tipped hairs sometimes present.
