The native range of this species is Comoros, N. & E. Madagascar. It is a rhizomatous geophyte and grows primarily in the wet tropical biome.

Schippers in Fern Gaz. 14, 6: 200 (1993) cites Asplenium gautieri Hook., based on Pócs & Nsolomo 87051/AG (not seen) – this taxon is otherwise only known from Madagascar.
