Morphology General Habit
Small deciduous or semi-deciduous tree 5–12(20) m. high or shrub 4 m. high; crown rounded to flat-rounded; bark dark-brown to grey-black, fissured, rough, lattice-like; branchlets densely tomentose when young, glabrescent, with greyish-brown fibrous bark and prominent leaf-scars.

Leaves spirally arranged, petiolate; lamina 11–18(26) x 4·5–5·5(11·5) cm., coriaceous, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, tomentose when young, ± glabrescent and somewhat glaucous, sometimes bullate above, apex acute to rounded or subcordate: lateral nerves 8–12 pairs, prominent beneath; petiole 1–5–3 cm. long.
