The native range of this species is Canary Islands, Sahara to Arabian Peninsula, Namibia, Kriti (Koufonisi Island) to W. India, S. Central China, SW. & S. Central U.S.A. to Mexico. It is an annual, biennial or perennial and grows primarily in the desert or dry shrubland biome.
