Perennial herb, 0.6–1.3 m high, erect to decumbent; stem single from a woody tuberous rootstock, little branched, glabrous.

Leaves lanceolate to ovate, 5–15 cm long, 1–3 cm wide, base long attenuate but wider near stem, margins coarsely dentate to shallowly pinnately lobed, apex acute to attenuate, glandular-punctate, scabrid on both surfaces; pseudopetiole to 35 mm long.
