Annual herb 0.2–1.8 m high; stems often striped reddish below, simple or branched, sparsely pubescent or glabrous.

Leaves ovate to deltoid in outline, bipinnatisect, 3–8 cm long, 2–4 cm wide, segments linear or narrowly lanceolate, 1–4.5 mm wide, hispid-pubescent mainly on main vein and margins; petiole to 20 mm long.
