- Morphology General Habit
- Annual or occasionally perennial herb, 20–90 cm high, the base sometimes woody and with one or more shoots, simple or branched; stems short-pubescent with glandular hairs; whole plant viscid, sticky and aromatic (smell variously described as lemony or like Hyptis or Tanacetum).

- Leaves occasionally purplish, the petiole absent but especially the proximal leaves with a long-attenuate base resembling a petiole up to 5 cm long, blade elliptic, oblanceolate or obovate, 2–10(–20 in proximal leaves) cm long, 0.6–6 cm wide, base cuneate to long-attenuate, margins dentate to serrate-dentate, apex acute or rounded and apiculate, densely to sparsely pubescent and glandular on both surfaces.
