The native range of this species is Florida to Caribbean. It is a shrub or tree and grows primarily in the seasonally dry tropical biome. It is used as a medicine and has environmental uses.

Bahamas, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Florida, Haiti, Jamaica, Leeward Is., Puerto Rico, Trinidad-Tobago, Venezuelan Antilles, Windward Is.
