Perennial; caespitose; clumped loosely. Rhizomes absent, or short. Culms erect, or geniculately ascending; 50-90 cm long; 4 -noded. Leaf-sheaths smooth, or scaberulous. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 2-5 mm long; erose. Leaf-blades flat, or involute; 1.5-4 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface ribbed; grooved adaxially. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.

Inflorescence a panicle. Panicle open; lanceolate, or ovate; loose; 10-35 cm long; with spikelets clustered towards branch tips. Spikelets solitary. Fertile spikelets pedicelled.
