Morphology General Habit
Perennial herb 0.9–1.2 m high, with a single stem or several erect stems from a thickened rootstock; stems up to 4 mm in diameter, striate, pubescent.

Leaves sessile, narrowly panduriform to lanceolate, 4–8 cm long, 1–2 cm wide, the base auriculate and up to 6 mm wide, narrowed just above the base and then widening, the margins coarsely serrate-dentate, less often entire (not in ours), acute or rounded and mucronate at the apex, glandular and thinly pubescent on both surfaces.

Capitula 3–4 mm long, several to many united in dense globose cymes which are in their turn united into leafy branched corymbs ending the branches; axes of inflorescence white-pubescent and glandular; stalks of individual capitula 5–6 mm long; receptacle torus-shaped, warty with floret bases; phyllaries green, oblong, 1.4–2.3 mm long, 0.4–0.5 mm wide, acute.

Ray florets ± 40, golden yellow, the tube 1–1.2 mm long, the ray 0.4–0.6 mm long, 0.25–0.35 mm wide, style 1.2–1.4 mm long; disc florets ± 15, golden yellow, the tube 1.4–1.7 mm long, the lobes 0.6–0.7 mm long; anthers 0.8–1 mm long, appendages triangular; style 2.2–2.3 mm long.

Achenes ± 1 mm long, those of ray florets flattened, those of disc florets narrowly obconic, pilose; pappus of white, barbellate to subplumose setae 1.5–2 mm long.
