Perennial herb, woody herb or weak shrub, erect to 1 m high or decumbent with spreading branches sometimes rooting at the nodes, sometimes scandent; branches ribbed, glabrous or nearly so.

Leaves thick, ovate, 2–13 cm long, 1–10 cm wide, base cuneate to almost rounded, margins dentate, apex acuminate, scabridulous-pilose on both surfaces; petiole 7–44 mm long.
