Distribution
Cayman Islands. Florida, Bahamas and the Greater Antilles except Puerto Rico; doubtfully distinct from S. racemosum Jacq. of Puerto Rico and the Lesser Antilles.
Ecology
This species grows in rocky thickets and woodlands.
Recognition
Outside our area it tends to be very polymorphic, varying widely in the presence or absence of spines and other characters, but the Cayman population is quite uniform.
