Annual herb 3–45 cm high, glabrous; stems prostrate to ascending or erect, green and sometimes with red markings.

Leaves radical as well as alternate (the cauline ones), slightly fleshy, glaucous beneath, ovate in outline, 2–3-pinnatifid, 1–5 cm long, 1–4 cm wide, the segments narrowly lanceolate to linear, apiculate; petiole 10–30 mm long, clasping the stem at base.
