A subwoody scrambler or vine with few tendrils, the branches variously 4-winged or - angled; leaves glabrous, trifoliate, the terminal leaflet subrhombic-elliptic, 3–6 cm long or more, the lateral ones obliquely ovate and smaller, all blunt to subacuminate at the apex, the margins distantly and minutely mucronate-serrulate

The Cayman plants as described above are somewhat transitional toward Cissus caustica Tussac, a species of Cuba and Hispaniola.
