Biogeografic region: Andean, Caribbean, Orinoquia. Elevation range: 10–1600 m a.s.l. Cultivated in Colombia. Native to Colombia. Colombian departments: Antioquia, Arauca, Atlántico, Bolívar, Córdoba, Huila, La Guajira, Magdalena, Norte de Santander, Sucre, Tolima, Valle del Cauca.
