Some 30+ species extending from S & C Europe through S.W. Asia to the Himalayas and China.
Etymology
Doronicum (said to be from the Ar., though no equivalent can now be traced; the oldest scientific epithet within the genus, pardalianches (Lat.) literally meaning “leopard-killer”, is possibly derived from the Ar. fahad, leopard.).
