A shrub up to 3 m tall, dioecious or monoecious, the branchlets tomentose with simple and stellate hairs.

Leaves deciduous at flowering time, more or less elliptic or rhombic. ovate, mostly 2–8 cm long, blunt to acute at the apex, the margins closely or distantly serrate or denticulate, tomentose with stellate hairs on both sides but especially beneath, and the tissue with two small round glands toward the base beneath. Spikes mostly 8–20 mm long, densely tomentose
