Petioles (1.5–)4–7 cm. long, with 2–4 small conical scarious tawny stipels at the apex; leaf-blade elliptic-ovate, elliptic-lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate or oblong-elliptic, (10–)13–20 cm. long, 3–7.5 cm. wide, obtusely, subacutely or acutely shortly acuminate, rounded or cuneate at the base, minutely and somewhat remotely denticulate, the teeth resembling the stipels in form, membranous to thinly chartaceous, lateral nerves (7–)9–12 pairs, the 2 lowest often close together, the upper remoter, commonly all looped well within the margin, minutely tuberculate above and beneath, glabrous above, sparingly pubescent beneath at first, later subglabrous, purplish when young, later dark green above and paler beneath.

Male flowers:pedicels articulate, capillary, 5–6(–8) mm. long, glabrous; buds globose, apiculate; calyx-lobes 3, broadly elliptic-ovate, 1.5 mm. long, obtuse, glabrous, green; stamens 25–30, multiseriate, filaments 0.5 mm. long, anthers minute, white; disc-glands 0.
