Perennial; caespitose; clumped densely. Culms 15-40 cm long. Culm-internodes smooth. Culm-nodes black. Lateral branches lacking. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 0.7-1.5 mm long; obtuse. Leaf-blades 1-1.5 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface glabrous.
