Morphology General Habit
Perennial; caespitose. Rhizomes short; pachymorph. Culms erect; 2000 cm long; 75 mm diam.; woody; without nodal roots. Culm-internodes terete; thick-walled; 50 cm long; dark green. Lateral branches dendroid. Culm-sheaths 20-25 cm long; 1 times as long as wide; glabrous; convex at apex; auriculate; setose on shoulders. Culm-sheath ligule 2.5 mm high. Culm-sheath blade triangular; 10-15 cm long; pubescent; acute. Leaves cauline. Leaf-sheaths striately veined; glabrous on surface, or puberulous. Leaf-sheath auricles falcate. Ligule an eciliate membrane; truncate. Collar with external ligule. Leaf-blade base with a brief petiole-like connection to sheath; petiole 0.2 cm long. Leaf-blades lanceolate, or oblong; 30-35 cm long; 30-45 mm wide; glandular. Leaf-blade midrib conspicuous. Leaf-blade venation with 20-32 secondary veins. Leaf-blade surface puberulous; hairy abaxially. Leaf-blade margins scabrous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate; antrorsely scabrous.
