Morphology Reproductive morphology Fruits
Fruit an obovoid or ellipsoid loculicidal capsule, emerging from a slit in the perianth tube (in New Guinea)
Morphology Reproductive morphology Seeds
Seeds 2, pubescent.
Ecology
In New Guinea, Gyrinops occurs in primary forests from 0–900 m.
Recognition
It can be recognised by the alternate leaves with closely parallel lateral veins and thickening at the margin which causes it to crinkle when dry, the silky indumentum on the young leaves, the umbellate or fasciculate inflorescences which, unlike Aquilaria, have a peduncle and the stamens and petaloid appendages are equal in number to the perianth lobes. The fruit is distinctive in that it often emerges through a split in the persistent perianth tube.
