Perennial; caespitose. Culms erect; 60-90 cm long. Culm-internodes distally glabrous. Culm-nodes purple. Leaf-sheaths glabrous on surface. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 3-5 mm long; erose, or lacerate. Leaf-blades 5-20 cm long; 1-3 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous; rough adaxially; glabrous. Leaf-blade margins scaberulous. Leaf-blade apex acuminate.
