Perennial; caespitose. Basal innovations intravaginal. Culms erect; 30-60 cm long. Ligule an eciliate membrane; 2-2.5 mm long; obtuse. Leaf-blades erect; 15-35 cm long; stiff. Leaf-blade surface smooth; glabrous. Leaf-blade apex acute; pungent.
