Perennial. Culms 30-70 cm long; disarticulating at the nodes (upper nodes). Lateral branches ample. Leaf-sheaths longer than adjacent culm internode. Ligule a fringe of hairs. Leaf-blades involute; 1-3 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface scaberulous. Leaf-blade apex acute.
