The native range of this species is E. Medit. to Central Asia and China (Sichuan, Yunnan). It is an annual and grows primarily in the subtropical biome.
Perennial; caespitose. Culms erect, or geniculately ascending; 35-70 cm long. Leaf-sheath oral hairs lacking. Leaf-sheath auricles falcate. Ligule an eciliate membrane. Leaf-blades 5-16 cm long; 4-8 mm wide. Leaf-blade surface smooth, or scabrous.
